Chopta a compact touristy town located at 2600m in the Garhwal region of Uttrakhand, closest to Tungnath temple and Chandrashila will make you fall in love with nature and will make you forget all about your hectic lives. This captivating and adventurous place filled with meadows and evergreen forests is the best destination for trekking. You will reach Chopta from Delhi Via Haridwar. You will reach Haridwar in around 5-6 hours and distance between Haridwar to Chopta is 190 km. It is best to make Haridwar or Rishikesh as your pit stop and start the rest of the journey to Chopta the next day.
Once you reach Chopta, which will be your base camp site. Have a nice camping experience at this beautiful place. The Tungnath,(the literal meaning of the word Tungnath is lord of the peaks), is known to be the highest temple of Shiva located at an altitude of 3680m and attracts a lot of tourists, the Chandrashila summit of the Tungnath offers a breathtaking view of the Himalayas.
The difficulty level of the trek is easy and it should ideally be completed in 3-4 days. The time taken from the base camp (Chopta)to Tungnath is approximately 3 hours.Tungnath which is one of the panch kedars and an interesting fact about this place, it is said to be 1000 years old. Further, it takes an hour to reach Chandrashila and enjoy the panoramic views of the Kumaon & Garhwal ranges. The trekking trail is well marked and is properly paved till Chandrashila.
Chopta is best visited during the summer in the month of July, August, and September in the pleasant weather.

This place is known as winter Kedarnath, devotees of Shiva often visit this holy temple. This place is all about spirituality and the scenic beauty it offers that attracts a lot of travelers every year.
- Madhyamaheshwar Mandir
Devotees worship the stomach of Lord Shiva here. This place is surrounded by alpine green meadows on one side and snow-covered the Himalayas on the other. This temple will give you a view of the Neelkanth and Kedarnath peaks.
